about

Hy Brazil is a compilation series that aims to map and promote the new music produced in Brazil focusing on electronic and experimental sounds. The formula of each volume is always the same: 14 unreleased tracks by 14 new producers across the Country.

Apart from the artists themselves, Hy Brazil fits conceptually with local promoters, festivals, producers, collectives, parties, labels and venues that have been struggling in recent years to change the cultural production scenario, always presenting new ideas, formats and smart programmes. Novas Frequências, Quintavant, Wooble, Matéria, Antimatéria, 40% Foda/ Maneiríssimo, Ruído, TOC, Fazedores de Som, Metanol, Beatwise, Colab 011, Avalanche Tropical, Funk na Caixa, Fazedores de Som, Braza, Eletronika, Norópolis, Desmonta, Voodoohop, Só Pedrada Musical, Ibrasotope, Música Estranha, Dissenso, Exhale the Sound, Step In, Audio Rebel, Comuna, Espaço SA, Trackers, Casa do Mancha, among others. The list grows every month.

Released last year respectively in March (via Spin), April (via Dummy) and May (via Resident Advisor), the first three volumes were widely covered in local mainstream media (O Globo, Estadão, Gazeta do Povo) and specialized international websites such as Tiny Mixtapes and FACT. The latter even elected the second volume (dedicated to experimental sounds) as one of the 20 Bandcamp best releases of the year. In 2014 are scheduled one more experimenal compilation, plus another that investigates the “canção” (songs sung in Portuguese).

A Rio de Janeiro resident, (Pedro) Manara was born in 1992. Owner at the same time of a warm and sinister sound that can resonate like techno or house, his main inspiration comes from Brazilian legends Moacir Santos, Luiz Gonzaga, Nana Vasconcelos and Dorival Caymmi, and also the great godfathers of electronic music like Tangerine Dream, Juan Atkins, Kraftwerk, Moritz Von Oswald, Pev and Anthony Naples.

"Man, mytho" is not only a preview of his debut album (called Ihnteractions) but also the first Domina label release, an imprint developed in partnership with music producer Marcelo Mudou. Besides the label, the duo also works in Domina Live, a live project without a fixed format which also has Isis Passos and Helô Duran taking care of projections.

ALDO
www.aldotheband.co

ALDO is a band composed by the São Paulo brothers André Faria (vocals, bass and guitar) and Murilo Faria (programming, synths, vocals). The name of the duo pays tribute to an uncle of the family. Uncle Aldo was the typical 80’s freak, a troublemaker who always took his two nephews to accompany him (at the time André with 12 and Murilo with only 8 years).

Uncle Aldo turned evangelical in 1997 and the brothers decided to exorcise all these memories with the ALDO band, releasing the LOVE IS album in 2013. With a strong electronic output, mixing synthesizers and beats with guitars and bass played organically, the band seeks the dancefloor with their "electronic-indie-disco-punk" sound.

The unreleased track "Bluffing" was mastered by Simon Davey in London’s The Exchange Studio and mixed and co-produced by David "O Marroquino".

Singer Danni Mendes, MC Sabara and dancer Safadin Dancy came later. Also part of the project is Swiss stylist rooted in Brazil Raquel Alvarez and creative business entrepreneur Rodrigo Santanna.

Conceived by Renato Martins, the Funk na Caixa blog was born in 2010 with the goal to promote baile funk mutations – not anymore the local sounds from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro – and also demonstrates its value. Funk na Caixa promotes singles and compilation releases targeting neo funk and global bass news.

The famous “pagode baiano” sounds totally different from the usual – it continues with a full face organic drumming, but the synths and the bass put them towards the dancefloor.
